Morocco has 16,000 historic sites and monuments

Rabat - Morocco has some 16,000 historic sites and monuments, said Tuesday in Rabat, Moroccan minister of Culture Mohamed Amine Sbihi. 

The minister, who was speaking at the Parliament, added that these monuments and sites have been crying for attention for years and suffered from the lack of material resources necessary for their protection and preservation. 

Sbihi stressed that the governenment and society are now aware of the importance of this national heritage, noting that his departement with the collaboration of other ministries has made considerable efforts to preserve this cultural heritage through restoration and upkeeping projects. This collaboration helps mobilizing additional financial resources nearing 150 million dirhams each year, he pointed out, highlighting the importance of this national heritage for tourism and sustainable development.
