Morocco: UM6P and IPM Collaborate against Pandemics of Highly Pathogenic Germs

Jeudi 7 Mai 2020

Casablanca - The Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and the Pasteur Institute of Morocco (IPM), with the support of the OCP Group and the OCP Foundation, have recently signed an agreement to provide Morocco with additional capacity for research and the fight against highly pathogenic germs pandemics.

This agreement, which is fully in line with the national effort to combat the pandemic of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), will enable its signatories to pool their resources and means to contribute to the development of national virology research capacity, said a statement by the UM6P.

It involves several aspects, including the setting up of a medical virology centre for highly pathogenic germs within the IPM for detection, warning, virology and the development of new diagnostic techniques for highly pathogenic germs, and the creation of a category P3 laboratory capable of housing virology research work, within the UM6P.

These two structures also intend to support the emergence of an entrepreneurial ecosystem for the commercialization of research results and the strengthening of the national biomedical industry.
