Morocco Turns Coronavirus Crisis into Opportunity to Develop its Industry and Stimulate its Economy (Slovenian Paper)

Ljubljana - Morocco has turned the coronavirus crisis into an opportunity to develop its industry and stimulate its economy, the Slovenian daily Delo reported on Thursday.

Since the appearance of the first cases of coronavirus, Morocco has turned the health crisis into an economic opportunity to boost the industrial sector in order to cover its needs in medical equipment in the fight against the pandemic, by mobilizing the textile industry to produce 7 million protective masks daily, stressed the paper in an article published on its website.

These medical masks, some of which Morocco has begun to export to France and other European countries, are sold in pharmacies at a unit price not exceeding 7 euro cents, particularly in the context of the imposition of the compulsory wearing of masks in public places since 7 April, the publication recalled.

Morocco has also set up a special fund to fight the epidemic in order to tackle the health and economic crisis at the same time, with contributions amounting to 3.2 billion euros, i.e. 2.6 pc of the Gross Domestic Product, the daily noted.

Morocco was also the first African country to call for the creation of an operational framework to support the countries of the continent in the various stages of their management of the pandemic, recalled the publication.

All these measures are part of the Kingdom's rapid response to deal with the spread of the pandemic, the daily stressed, adding that Morocco has closed its air and sea borders since mid-March and established a state of health emergency extended until 20 May.

Morocco has also initiated good organization in many areas during the epidemic crisis, in particular the adoption of a system of telework and distance learning, in addition to supporting people who have lost their jobs in the private and informal sectors, noted the daily.

These measures have enabled Morocco to achieve positive results, the publication pointed out.
