Morocco Surprised by Statements on Alleged Moroccan Intermediation to Resume Israeli-Palestinian Peace Discussions

Rabat - Morocco is "greatly surprised" by statements on an alleged Moroccan intermediation to resume Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, Delegate Minister to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Mbarka Bouaida said on Wednesday.

Morocco has always supported any initiative that aims to contribute to settling the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but "we are greatly surprised by statements on an alleged intermediation of the Kingdom to revive Israeli-Palestinian peace talks", she told MAP.

Bouaida recalled that the so-called Sam Benchetrit, an Israeli of Moroccan origin, had talked about an alleged intermediation, which the Kingdom "is not aware" of.

"Benchetrit has undertaken this initiative in a strictly personal capacity, he has never been mandated by any Moroccan authority and, therefore, he cannot claim any legitimacy to act on behalf of Morocco", she said.
