Morocco, Spain Highlight Exemplary Migration Cooperation

Madrid - Morocco's ambassador to Spain Karima Benyaich and Spanish Secretary of State for Migration Hana Jalloul Muro, underlined the exemplary Moroccan-Spanish migration cooperation. During this meeting, held Tuesday at the headquarters of the State Secretariat for Migration in Madrid, the two parties welcomed the exemplary cooperation relations between the two countries in the area of circular and legal migration, recalling the 2001 campaign to recruit Moroccan seasonal workers in the province of Huelva (south), said a press release from the Embassy of Morocco. This meeting, the first of its kind with the Spanish official since taking office, was an opportunity to hail the excellent partnership relations between Morocco and Spain, which testifies to the traditional friendship uniting the two countries and the enormous potential for bilateral cooperation in all areas. Benyaich reviewed the political, economic and social reforms carried out by Morocco, thanks to the insightful vision of HM King Mohammed VI, and the achievements made by the Kingdom in different fields, which helped it be at the forefront of the Arab-Muslim world in general, and the Maghreb in particular.

For her part, the Spanish official highlighted the excellent cooperation relations between the two countries in the field of migratory inflow management, and the high level of understanding and mutual trust existing between her country and Morocco, voicing her entire readiness to work with the Moroccan authorities. After stressing that migration-related issues are complex and cannot be resolved through a security approach alone, the Secretary of State stressed the need to set up a real European policy on migration and asylum.
