Mercredi 26 Février 2020

Mexico City - Speaker of the House of Advisors Hakim Benchamach and President of the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico Laura Angélica Rojas Hernández expressed, on Tuesday in Mexico City, their mutual commitment to give new impetus to cooperation relations between the legislative institutions of the two countries. This commitment was expressed during a meeting between the two officials during a visit to the Aztec country by a Moroccan parliamentary delegation composed, in addition to Benchamach, of Abdelkader Salama, vice-speaker of the House of Advisors, to participate in the meeting of the Forum of Presidents of the Legislative Powers of Central America and the Caribbean (FOPREL).

Benchamach stressed, on this occasion, the importance of the strategic situation of the two countries and their regional leadership in many areas, in particular in the consolidation of the democratic choice and human rights, the management of migration issues, as well as environmental protection and the fight against climate change, which qualifies them to promote an exemplary partnership between the countries of Africa and Latin America. On the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, Benchamach gave an overview on the various aspects of this question which benefits from a national consensus, underlining that a visit by Mexican parliamentarians to the southern provinces is essential to understand the reality of the Moroccan Sahara issue and the relevance of the Moroccan autonomy proposal, as a political, just and realistic solution, in order to put an end to this artificial conflict under the Moroccan sovereignty. For her part, Rojas Hernández noted that the visit of the Moroccan parliamentary delegation reflects the firm will to promote bilateral relations, emphasizing the major role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening cooperation relations between the two countries in the various fields. The President of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies and several deputies welcomed Morocco's progress in boosting the representation of women and young people in its legislative and political institutions.
