The Moroccan minister underscored during this panel the highly humane dimension of the Moroccan new immigration and asylum policy adopted at the initiative of HM King Mohammed VI, stressing that it brings concrete answers to a complex issue that does not concern Morocco alone but African and European countries as well.

He further explained that the new policy seeks to give immigrants the same rights as Moroccans, such as the right to work, adding that Morocco sought to launch a campaign to issue legal stay permits to some categories of undocumented immigrants.

The IOM general director congratulated Morocco for the success of this new policy and said measures taken so far are very "encouraging".

Swing noted that over USD 400 billion are being transferred every year by immigrants worldwide.

The encounter was held in the presence of executives from the UN High commissioner for human rights, the High commissioner for refugees, ambassadors representing Ethiopia and Nigeria and the chief delegate of the European Union delegation to the UNO.
