Morocco Has Health Programs to Control Emerging Communicable Diseases

Mercredi 3 Février 2016

Rabat - Morocco has health programs to protect and control emerging communicable diseases, which allows it to meet the challenges of public health and contribute to the international efforts in this regard, Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Morocco, Yves Souteyrand, said Tuesday Rabat.

Speaking at a national conference held by the Health Ministry and WHO on "core missions of public health in Morocco: from assessment to action", Mr. Souteyrand focused on the important initiatives that were implemented in 2015 by the Ministry in cooperation with the WHO, namely the preparation of the response to Ebola, the assessment of public health laboratories, the development of a national borderless health monitoring strategy and the organization of a workshop on the development of a communication strategy on risks, at the initiative of the Health ministry and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

WHO launched an initiative, in partnership with the Health ministry, to assess the essential missions of public health in order to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the system, he said, noting that the resulting report will serve as a reference document for Morocco to develop a multi-sectoral action plan to improve public health capacities.

The assessment, which was presented at the meeting, highlighted the strengths of public health in Morocco, namely the political commitment to promote and reform health systems in accordance with the constitution provisions which guarantee the right of access to health care and social protection, he added.
