Morocco, France hail cooperation in promotion of women's rights

New York (United Nations) - Minister Delegate for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Youssef Amrani, and French Minister of Women's Rights, Najat Belkacem-Vallaud, welcomed Monday in New York, cooperation between the two countries, particularly in improving the conditions of Women.

"We hailed cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the field of the protection of women's rights at a time when Morocco is preparing the parity law in accordance with the new Constitution," Amrani told MAP, at the end of this meeting on the sidelines of a discussion of the Security Council of the UN.

The Minister gave an overview of the various reforms initiated in the Kingdom under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI in favor of promoting the status of women.

The Moroccan official met also with Foreign Minister of Guatemala, Fernando Carrera, with whom he discussed bilateral relations and the importance of the actions undertaken by Morocco, the only Arab country in the Security Council of the UN.

Amrani took part in a debate of the Security Council "on sexual violence in armed conflicts", chaired by British Foreign Minister, whose country holds the presidency of the UN Security Council for the month of June, in the presence of Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, several ministers, and special Envoy of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNCHR), Angelina Jolie.SE MAP 242219 GMT Jun 2013
