Morocco Consolidates Diversity as a Bulwark against Extremism - Italian Newspaper

Mardi 22 Décembre 2020

Rome - Morocco is working to promote diversity as a bulwark against extremism and as a pillar of its rich cultural heritage, wrote Italian newspaper "La Repubblica".
In a story entitled "Morocco Rediscovers its Jewish Roots at School," the newspaper noted that the latest initiative to promote diversity through culture and knowledge is Morocco's initiative to "introduce Moroccan Jewish history and culture in the curriculum of elementary school."

This measure will restore an important page of the history of Morocco, this time through schools "to remind of Jewish roots in the history and culture" of the country, the daily said. This is one of many initiatives taken by Morocco that attaches great importance to diversity, it added.

La Repubblica stressed in this context the pioneering role that Morocco plays in the Middle East peace process.

HM King Mohammed VI has launched several initiatives to promote and protect the Jewish cultural heritage in Morocco, the newspaper said, noting that the Moroccan Constitution of 2011 is the only one in the world that recognizes in its preamble the Hebrew heritage as part of the identity components of the Kingdom.

Late HM King Hassan II worked to preserve this heritage and consolidate ties with the Moroccan Jewish community, La Repubblica concluded.
