Morocco, Belgium committed to stronger ties

Brussels - Morocco and Belgium have expressed their commitment to strengthen their partnership and give a new impetus to their cooperation in various fields.

This commitment was expressed by Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani and Belgian Minister of Public Enterprises and Development Cooperation, Jean Pascal Labille, during a meeting in Brussels on Thursday.

On this occasion, El Otmani welcomed the "dense" and "fruitful" cooperation ", and the excellent relations between the two kingdoms.

The Belgian minister, for his part, said Morocco is a key partner of the Belgian Development Cooperation, noting that his country had doubled the size of its budget contribution, which rose to 80 million euros for 2010 -2013.

He stressed the need to move towards a "new approach" of cooperation, and reflect on new instruments.

The program of development cooperation covers a number of sectors and aims to improve the living conditions of people in the poorest regions, said El Otmani, referring to the next meeting of the sectoral partnership to be held in June for the evaluation and monitoring of projects in the field of Agriculture and Water.

The two ministers also discussed the situation in the Sahel region, and the potential role of Morocco in the stabilization of the area, and the situation in the Maghreb countries in the context of the Arab Spring.
