Morocco: A third of pharmacies are bankrupt

Of the 12,500 pharmacies in Morocco, a third party are bankrupt, third are barely profitable and only the last third areactually profitable.

This report has been prepared and the alarm sounds, for industry professionals at the Officine Expo 2013, the last International Exhibition of professional medicine recently held in Marrakech.

Indeed, there are many failures for cyclical sectors  with economic and social traits in Morocco.

Thus, pharmacists point to the drug consumption habits of Moroccans, agreeing to call it weak.

A Moroccan spends 400 DH per year on medicines, against DH 1,150  for the phone.

In addition, 42% of medicines sold in pharmacies have a  Moroccan public price (MPP) of less than 30 dirhams  and 70% have less than 50 dirhams MPP the average selling price of medicines is 28 DH.

The government of Abdelilah Benkirane made consecutive price cuts for more than 320 medicines  and another volley of price cuts, is in preparation.
