Paris - The important economic and trade ties between Morocco and France offer a favorable framework for a lasting understanding, especially for the benefit of both countries' agricultural sectors, said, Tuesday in Paris, minister of agriculture and sea fisheries Aziz Akhannouch.

Speaking as part of the first Moroccan-French agricultural joint committee, Akhannouch recalled that the food-processing exchanges, which vary between 1.2 and 1.5 billion euros, represent on average of 15 per cent of the total value of trade exchanges between the two countries, adding that France is the top destination for Moroccan food-processing exports with 33 pc market share.

France is also the 2nd largest supplier of the kingdom with 14 pc share market, he said, adding that Morocco, outside the countries of the European Union, is the third supplier of France. The minister also stressed the importance of the sectors represented at this meeting, namely cereals, beef, fruits and vegetables, in the Moroccan agricultural sector.

The Moroccan-French agricultural joint committee was established by the partnership agreement on agriculture between Morocco and France signed during the state visit to the Kingdom by French President François Hollande in April 2013.
