Moroccan FM: Sweden's Decision Not to Recognize 'SADR' in Line with International Law

Samedi 16 Janvier 2016

Sweden's decision not to recognize the so called "SADR", is "in line with the international law and in coherence with the UN-led political process", the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Corporation said Friday.

This statement comes after the Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom announced this Friday that her country has no intention to recognize the "Western Sahara" as a state, reaffirming Sweden's support to the ongoing UN-led negotiations over the Sahara issue.

"This decision is in line with the international law and in harmony with the UN-led political process, which aims to reach a just, sustainable and mutually acceptable solution to this dispute which lasted for too long", the Moroccan ministry said in a statement.

The Moroccan department stressed that the kingdom has taken note of the conclusions of the Swedish government's report over the Moroccan Sahara issue.

Beyond some questionable appreciations, Morocco notices that the analysis led by the Swedish Government for 18 months, has ended in the inexorable conclusion that the so called "SADR" cannot be recognized as the "the criteria of recognition are not fulfilled", the ministry pointed out.

The same source added that Morocco hopes that the "strong legalist position of the Swedish government can promote critical discernment and legal consciousness among all those, governments and regional organizations,
which have opted for a baseless recognition of the "ghostly and illegal
republic".

The Moroccan Foreign Ministry pointed out that Morocco is convinced that
the constructive position of the Swedish government on the various
dimensions of these regional conflicts, notably the economic dimension,
will promote the smooth and sustainable development of bilateral relations.
