More than 35.2 million subscribers for mobile phones in 2011 in Algeria

There were 35.2 million mobile telephone subscribers in Algeria in 2011, up 2.5 million users compared to 2010, the Regulatory Authority for Post and Telecommunications (ARPT) said on Saturday.

A total of 35,228,893 mobile phone subscribers have been registered until November 2011. A significant increase in sales compared to 2010 when it was 32,780,165 subscribers, Faycal Medjahed, head of communications at the ARPT, told APS.

These statistics show an access rate of over 95% of the population, the services provided by three mobile operators.

 In 2011, the two mobile operators OTA (Orascom Telecom Algeria, Djezzy) and ATM (Mobilis Algeria Telecom, the public)  had the leading in market share, followed by WTA (Watania Telecom Algeria, Nedjma ) number of subscribers.

 Djezzy held 46.81% of these shares in 2011 with 16,490,690 subscribers up compared to 2010 (15,087,393 subscribers). The number of subscribers at Mobilis has also increased from 9,446,774 in 2010 to 10,280,098 in 2011, which corresponds to a market share of 29.18%.

 Nedjma account for its share, 8,458,105 subscribers in 2011, against 8,245,998 subscribers in 2010, a rate of 24.01% market penetration.
