The report noted that in France from 20 to 30,000 Tunisians have also received a temporary stay,TAP reports.

Migration flows to Europe are one of the consequences of the Tunisian Revolution (April 14, 2011), said Mehdi Mabrouk, Tunisian Minister of Culture at the opening of this conference, organized at the initiative of the Forum for Tunisia - "The Economic and Social Rights" in collaboration with the Friedrich Elbert Institute and the Arab Institute for Human Rights.

The Tunisian official has also observed that the relaxation recorded in border surveillance by the Tunisian, following the popular uprising, encouraged the networks to expand their illegal operations to Italy, stressing that the difficult economic situation in the country prompted the Tunisian youth to venture in Europe.

Mehdi Mabrouk also noted that the unstable situation in neighboring Libya, has led to a massive influx of refugees to Tunisia.

According to data from the Office of Tunisians Abroad (OTA), the number of Tunisian immigrants has reached 1.1 million, or 10 pc of the total of the Tunisian population noting that about 80 pc are installed in Europe especially in France hosting alone 700,000 Tunisian emigrants.

Experts and researchers from Mediterranean countries participating in the symposium discussed several topics related to immigration including the issue of illegal immigration, the European policy on migration and refugee protection in southern Tunisia.
