Moncef Marzouki calls for mini government of technocrats.

The interim president, Moncef Marzouki called on Friday night to the formation of a mini-government skills which is not based on party politics to take charge of development issues.The current government has about 80 members.

"The country is now at a crossroads," warned President Marzouki in a speech at the Tunisian people, calling on all parties to assume their responsibilities in this challenging environment.

All national forces, he insisted, should opt for dialogue and banish attempts to undermine the state  by "illegitimate forces that seek to exploit legitimate demands" such as the demonstrators in Sliiana have voiced for jobs and regional development. He emphasised that the instablilty would lead to a "leakage of investments which were the only solution to unemployment in the deprived regions. He acknowldeged that expectations were very high and that the government had not met the expectations of the people.

He warned that the situation could become chaotic and that violence could spread. He called for all parties to unite. The organisation of elections before the summer was now vital he said asserted.There has been no response from the Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali who has the overall power under the temporary constitution  which was agreed by the Constituent Assembly which was elected on 23 October 2011 with Ennahda holding a majority of seats.

The army has moved into Siliana to restore order in place of the police, Reuters reported.
