Minister : UfM, excellent opportunity to promote concrete projects in Mediterranean

Rabat - The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) is an excellent opportunity for all the economic stakeholders to promote concrete projects in the region, said minister of Equipment and Transport Aziz Rabbah.

"Given the strategic importance of transport in economic development, the UfM is an excellent opportunity for the promotion of concrete and useful projects for all public and private economic stakeholders in the Mediterranean region," M. Rabbah said during a work session held in Barcelona with the Secretary General of UfM Fathallah Sijilmassi.

According to a statement of the ministry of equipment and transport, the UfM SG, for his part, reiterated the importance of the support and the continued commitment of Morocco in the activities of the UfM, especially in "projects that contribute to the development of trade and exchanges in the region, such as the Trans-Maghreb motorway and LOGISMED Training Activities" (LOGISMED- TA).

M. Rabbah held talks with M. Sijilmassi on the sidelines of the launching Conference of the UfM project LOGISMED Training Activities on Monday in Barcelona.

The Ministers of Transport of Morocco and Tunisia, the European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy, ?tefan Füle, and the Vice-President of the European Investment Bank, Philippe de Fontaine Vive, took part at the Launching Conference of the UfM project LOGISMED- TA, where they expressed their support and commitment to the success of the project.

The Secretary General of the UfM, announced that LOGISMED-TA will be initially launched in Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia, adding that the project will be implemented in ten Mediterranean countries during the period 2013-2018 and will lead to the creation of five new logistics platforms.

LOGISMED-TA aims to enhance the competitiveness of the logistics in the region, complementing existing trainings programs and supporting the Mediterranean partners in their efforts to improve the qualifications of the personnel in the sector.

It is an UfM project promoted by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and funded by the European Commission (3 million Euros) and the Deauville Partnership Transition Fund (3.4 million Euros).
