Mining development strategy aims to create 15,000 jobs in 2025, Minister

Rabat - The mining development strategy aims to double the number of job opportunities generated by the sector to more than 30,000, and triple sales to more than 15 billion dirhams, said Friday in Rabat, Minister of Energy, Mines, Water and the Environment, Fouad Douiri.

 The strategy also aims to multiply by 10 investments in exploration and mining research to nearly 4 billion dirhams, said Douiri at a press conference organized on the occasion of the presentation of the strategy.

"The strategy provides for increasing investments in research and exploration, attracting domestic and international investors, and updating existing regulations," said the minister.

It also provides for implementing several measures affecting the entire mining chain, including exploration, research, exploitation, and processing of minerals, he added, stressing on the importance on updating geological mapping.

The Minister outlined a number of priority projects, namely a program to upgrade the mining landscape, and a new mining code.
