Mezouar meets with Catherine Ashton and Croatian FM in Athens

Athens - Foreign minister, Salaheddine Mezouar, met Wednesday in Athens, with the high representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Catherine Ashton, as well as deputy prime minister and foreign minister of Croatia, Vesna Pusic.

On the Sidelines of his participation in the 3rd EU-Arab League Forum held in Athens, the minister discussed with Ashton ways to strengthen bilateral relations, a number of regional issues of common interest, including the situation in Libya and Syria, and the means to develop the Moroccan-European cooperation in terms of policy consultation on regional crises.

On this occasion, Ashton praised the role played by Morocco to foster peace, security and stability in the region, and promote the culture of tolerance and respect for human rights. The European official also welcomed the progress made by Morocco in the field of human rights, and the peaceful democratic transition and the success of the reform process launched by the Kingdom. For his part, Mezouar recalled that Morocco has long been committed, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, to the process of political reforms, noting that the maturity of the political class and the Moroccan society, have made Morocco a model in the region. Mezouar also held talks with the deputy prime minister and foreign minister of Croatia, Vesna Pusic, on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
