Mawazine 2013 celebrates the legendary Silk Road on the historical stage of the Chellah

The 12th edition of the Mawazine Festival, Rhythms of the World, scheduled from 24 May to 1 June in Rabat, programming the scene at the Chellah of the musical adventure of the Silk Road, through the presence of many artists inviting the audience on a journey through eight different countries.

The scene of the Chellah is a unique programming which includes eight teams from around the world, said a statement from the association Morocco Cultures, organizer of the event.

 Dedicated to the famous Silk Road, this network of trade routes that linked Asia to Europe for centuries, the scenography of Chellah offer the public a unique musical marvel in the exceptional surroundings of the historic Chellah, according to the same source.

 The audience will embark on a magical journey through two continents, the scene at the Chellah will be decorated with a map of abstract countries crossed by the Silk Road, as well as a set of monumental mirrors which will reflect patterns mixed with silk carpets  on the ground to the audience.

 They come from Japan, Uzbekistan, Turkey and Italy, are all invited groups representing different cultures and regional styles.

Sicilian singer Patrizia Laquidara, one of the most beautiful voices in Italy, will perform at the opening of the program Saturday, May 25 The next day (Sunday, May 26), it is the Turkish singer Aynur, symbol of Kurdish musical heritage, who will perform his first concert in Morocco, while the trio Zabit Nabizade, from Azerbaijan and guarantor of national musical tradition, will on stage Monday, May 27, the statement said.

 Tuesday, May 28, is Homayoun Shajarian vocalist famous in Iran, who will offer festival-goers a unique recital, while Yulduz Turdieva, a native of Uzbekistan, will be honored Wednesday, May 29, followed the next day, Thursday May 30, the famous Indian dancer Sharmila Sharma.

 The Dragon Ensemble represent, Friday, May 31, the best of traditional Chinese music, while the closing evening which  is scheduled for June 1, will be devoted to the Japanese duo Shunsuke Kimura & Ono Etsuro two virtuoso flutes present a unique fusion between traditional songs and folk music.

 Since 2001, the Festival Mawazine Rhythms of the World, has been the rendezvous of the Moroccan and international music scene . Every year in May, this event unique rocks the capital of the Kingdom to the sounds of music open to the four corners of the world through a rich and unusual performance.

 The association Morocco Cultures, created October 23, 2001,has the primary mission of ensuring the public of Rabat-Salé-Zemmour-Zaer a cultural and artistic professional show with level worthy of the kingdom's capital . It embodies its mission through the Mawazine Festival, Rhythms of the World and various events such as the Generation Mawazine competition, multidisciplinary symposia, exhibitions of visual art and music.
