Mali: an intervention not possible before September 2013, Romano Prodi
The date of a possible military intervention in northern Mali is the object of speculation. Which is perhaps not conducive to negotiations with the MNLA and Ansar Eddine. It is in this context that  Romano Prodi’s statement on the date for military action could be problematic, according to Jeune Afrique.

The Special Envoy of the UN in the Sahel was speaking after talks with Morocco's Foreign Minister, Saad Eddine El Othmani. "We must prepare (a) military action to be credible (and) my mission is to do everything to avoid war and peace, pleading for finding a political solution in Mali and the Sahel,"  he said. Prodi had previously announced his intention to organize an international meeting on the crisis in Mali during the month of December.

Saad Eddine El Othmani  meanwhile said that the kingdom was "not enthusiastic about military action," and stressed the need to focus on a political settlement of the conflict.
