The OCHA report says that this includes 261, 624 Malian refugees recorded in neighboring countries by the UNHCR, and 174 000  internally displaced.

Cholera cases are increasing: 140, including 11 deaths, were reported in Gao and Ansongo (nearby town) since the outbreak began in early July in a village near Gao, OCHA said in its report yet.

he United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that for its emergency food aid "must be provided to 4.6 million people" in Mali, also said Ocha. Of food distribution operations are organized across the country: the World Food Programme (WFP) has "provided emergency food assistance to 360,000 beneficiaries in accessible areas of southern Mali," and "thanks to its partners present in northern cities, WFP has reached more than 148,100 beneficiaries, "says FAO.

in addition locust swarms are in Mali as the FAO warned a month ago and the extent of the damage is being assessed. The report also emphasisesthehigh cost of food prices in the markets which the people cannot afford to pay as their livestocks and crops have been decimated.  OCHA remarks that the lack of funding from donors is having a serious effect and children are now not going to school. As the authorities in Bamako  wonder whether to invite ECOWAS forces into Mali for assistance and back up , the humanitarian effort could certainly use their help.
