Libya: Heavy shelling continues in Bani Walid

At least 22 people have died and 200 have been wounded in Bani Walid the state news agency Lana said. This was despite a ceasefire having been called by President Mohammed Magarief who has admitted that one year on, the country has not yet been fully liberated.

Thirteen soldiers were killed in the assault on Bani Walid on Saturday and 121 wounded, according to a member of the intensive care unit at Misrata general hospital,the Libya Herald reports. Casualty figures inside BaniWalidare unknown.

AFP news agency  reported that 26 people were killed in total and 200 wounded, although this has not yet  been confirmed.
 
Having recently condemned the assault, National Congress President Mohammed Magarief delivered an address yesterday warning of the threat posed to the country by Qaddafi loyalists still taking refuge in Bani Walid and confirming that the town had not yet been successfully “liberated”.“The campaign to liberate the country has not been fully completed”, Magarief said. “Bani Walid’s misfortune is that it has become a sanctuary for a large number of outlaws and anti-revolutionaries and mercenaries.”  Reports claim that the majortiy of the town is in government hands
 
A report that  Khamis Gaddafi had been killed announced on state TV caused widespread celebrations inTripoli and Misrata.  General National Congress spokesman Omar Hmaidan said on State TV on Saturday evening that Khamis had been wounded in Bani Walid and died on the way to hospital in Misrata await verification. He has been reported dead on a number of occasions but no body was ever found.There was also a report from the Prime Minister's office that Gaddafi's information spokesman  Moussa Ibrahim had been captured but this has also not been verified and a face book clip claiming to be Ibrahim denied his capture.
