Paris: The French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius denied on Monday holding a bank account in Switzerland as relayed by the Liberation newspaper, citing a rumor that he will be prosecuted.
Laurent Fabius denies holding a bank account in Switzerland
I categorically deny the rumour relayed by Liberation, (...) giving me an account in Switzerland. It is not based on any material fact and is completely unfounded, assured the chief diplomat in a statement.

According to Libération, the hypothesis of a hidden Laurent Fabius Swiss bank account concerned the Elysee Palace for three days due to an investigation by the information site Mediapart . If Fabius actually has an account in Switzerland, it is thewhole government that will fall, writes the daily.

The chief diplomat said in his statement that he had instructed his lawyer, Mr. Darrois to launch legal procedures permitting him to deny  and stop the spread of this false and slanderous information.

The founder of Mediapart, Edwy Plenel, who promised further revelations on Friday  on a Republican scandal after revealing the Cahuzac ase in December, late  on Sunday criticised the information relayed by Liberation.

Liberation's Release loses its head and  tomorrow (Monday), it turns into a rumour an  information concerning Fabius claiming to  deny a non-information by Mediapart, he wrote.

Guest on iâTELE Monday morning, the owner of PS, Harlem Désir, called to stick to the facts.

This was denied by Laurent Fabius and Mediapart also distanced itself from the rumours, he said. We must stick to the facts. It is true that the moral crisis that we know after the case of Jerome Cahuzac disgusted citizens who called  for strong responses, responses that allow calls to establish the moralisation of public life and the trust between citizens and institutions. It is not to start rumours every day.

The former budget minister, Jerome Cahuzac, resigned in March and recognised last Tuesday that he held a Swiss bank account after denying it for four months.

The case Cahuzac reveals the bankruptcy of this leftist morality and reveals lessons, said the UMP Xavier Bertrand on France Info.

The case illustrates today that Cahuzac and  politicians must realise that there is now an absolute requirement for exemplary standards..
