The Algerian government will encourage the development of domestic subcontractors around the factory of the company manufacturing agricultural tractors (ETRAG) that produced the first U.S. Massey Ferguson tractor on Monday in Algeria, Cherif Rahmani the Minister of Industry, SMEs and Investment Promotion said .

He said the government wanted to create an infrastructure for logistics support, and promote the activity of outsourcing around the factory at Constantine with Massey Ferguson , Mr. Rahmani said at a joint press conference  with Martin Heinrich Richenhagen CEO of AGCO Massey Ferguson, APS reported.

The Minister described it as the first step in the industrial recovery plan in Algeria  adding that Algerian .SME's would benefit from technology transfer and training.
 
With an initial capacity of 3,500 tractors / year, the project has an estimated investment of $ 35 million and will produce 5,000 machines in five years. It will create 700 direct jobs, according to data announced at the briefing.

The CEO of AGCO Massey Ferguson Martin Heinrich Richenhagen, emphasized the ambitions of this Algerian-American joint venture particularly in coverage of the domestic market and in a few years, export to African market .
He empahsised that  the project would provide Algerian farmers with the most modern equipment available which would required upgrading the plant  mproving quality and training the workforce.
