Marrakech - The international and regional challenges facing the region impose more than ever to multiply the areas of cooperation and coordination between Morocco and Spain, said, on Monday in Marrakech, Justice minister, Mohamed Ben Abdelkader.

Speaking at the opening of the 7th Morocco-Spain judicial meeting, the minister stressed the importance of consolidating cooperation and coordination between the two brotherly countries in many areas, including the fight against organized and cross-border crime, terrorism and extremism, human trafficking and illegal immigration, while underlining the need to ensure an exchange of information and expertise to combat these scourges that threaten peace on the southern shore of the Mediterranean.

He also pointed out that judicial cooperation between Morocco and Spain today covers a number of areas (criminal, civil, modernization and training), noting that the updating and revision of the legal framework governing this cooperation has become an absolute necessity in order to bring it into line with the new developments in Morocco's justice sector and to meet the international and regional challenges, as well as all the problems and difficulties that have a negative impact on the efficiency of the agreements concluded.

After praising the quality of bilateral relations and Morocco's prominence with the Spanish government as a "partner and neighbor that enjoys confidence and credibility", Ben Abdelkader expressed his "deep satisfaction" with the level of judicial cooperation between the two countries, which is marked by dynamism and efficiency, thanks to the will of HM King Mohammed VI and the King of Spain, Philip VI.
