Rabat - Inflation, calculated by the fluctuation of the index of consumer prices, remained moderate in 2012, standing at 1.3% after 0.9% in 2011, an evolution in conformity with forecasts by the central bank and in line with its goal of stability of prices on the middle term, according to the Bank Al-Maghrib (central bank).
Inflation stands at 1.3 in 2012 as forecast by central bank
This evolution is due to the increase of fuel prices as decided by the government on June 1, 2012, and the rise of 3% of foodstuffs volatile prices, mainly in December during which bad offer conditions led to an increase in vegetables' prices, said the Bank in its 2012 report on the economic, monetary and financial situation submitted on Wednesday to HM King Mohammed VI.

The index of consumer prices was also affected by the slowdown in the growth rate of prices of tradable goods in connection with inflationary tendencies in partner countries, and the decline in non-tradable products due to the weak domestic demand and reduction of communication services' prices.

The prices of volatile foodstuffs posted a rise of 3%, hence contributing with 0.4% in yearly inflation.
