In Amenas Stand off

Algerian troops have surrounded theIn Amenas complex.Mokhtar Belmokhtar,s group 'the Signed in Bood '' battalion say they have 41 hostages including Americans,British,French,Japanese Norwegians and an Irishman and Algerians. They are demqanding the end of the French intervention in Mali according to the Mauritanian site Sahara Media.

Algeria says some 20 foreign nationals are being held hostage, although the kidnappers say they have 41.A worker told France's Le Figaro newspaper the captors had mined the facility and demanded food, water and vehicles.

Algerian Interior Minister Daho Ould Kabila said the militants wanted to leave the country with the hostages, but he had refused to let them go."We reject all negotiations with the group," he told reporters , and he rejected al negotiations with the terrorists, according to APS.

Mokhtar Belmokhtar separated from Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb to form his own Katiba last year. He is a longtime Al Qaeda member having fought against the Soviet forces in Afghanstan.

Mr Ould Kabila  denied that the terrorists had come from outside Algeria and said that they were a group of twenty terrorists from the region acting on the orders of Mokhter Belmokhtar. The Algerian Minister of the interior was speaking on Algerian television reported APS. The terrorists had claimed to come from Mali.

The In Amenas gasfield is  about 1,300km (800 miles) south-east of Algiers, and about 60km (37 miles) west of the Libyan border.
