IMF Chief Christine Lagarde starts three-day visit to Algeria

The managing director of the IMF begins a three day visit to Algiers today accompanied by delegation from the IMF Middle East and North Africa Department.

She will meet senior officials in the economic and financial sectors and will give a press conference on wednesday
on the economic development and challenges in the world and in Algeria, on Wednesday and Thursday, an official from the Bank of Algeria told APS.

In January Mrs Lagarde gave a speech in Nouakchott where she called  for a private sector awakening in the Maghreb which could unleash the productive potential of the Maghreb and supporting innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity, and jobs. She called for greater openness and transparency to encourage greater investment in the Maghreb.

Algeria has contributed US $ 5 billion to  IMF lending   in special drawing rights and her visit will be an opportunity to review Algeria's relationship with the IMF, APS reported.
