ICCAT meeting: Algeria wants to retrieve its tuna catch quota

The negotiations for the designation of bluefin tuna catch quotas for the two next years started on Monday in Agadir with the presence of a strong Algerian delegation in charge of discussing Algeria quota, APS reports

This meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) should distribute the tuna catch quotas among the 48 member countries. During this meeting, from 12 to 19 November, the negotiations will be tough among the countries possessing a large fishing fleet.
 
The agenda of the ICCAT meeting is for the 48 member countries to discuss and define the catch quotas for the two next years, while the scientific commission highlights a positive view on the reconstitution of tuna stocks in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.
 
In fact, the ICCAT had decided since 2008, without imposing a moratorium, to reduce the permitted catch
 
In 2008, the quota was of 28,500 tons, decreased to 22,000 tons in 2009, then to 13,500 T in 2010 before declining to 12,900 tons in 2011 and 2012 .
