Human rights in Morocco: European MPs laud noteworthy democratic leap

Brussels - Morocco, which is multiplying large-scale projects on human rights promotion, succeeded over the past years in making a noteworthy democratic leap, Euro-deputies said on Wednesday in Brussels.

Speaking as part of the 5th yearly meeting of the EU-Morocco parliamentary joint committee, the European MPs expressed their satisfaction to depend on a partner which is making headway with democracy.

European MP Helène Flautre from the group of greens said that Morocco is impressive with its capacity to forge ahead with democracy and human rights, noting that the Kingdom relies on serious, independent, and well-documented work done by its human rights council (CNDH).

Annemie Neyts from the ADLE group said that efforts made by the Kingdom in the field of human rights should be applauded.

Euro-deputy Malika Benarab-Attou from the greens deemed fascinating the debate in Morocco on the new immigration and asylum policy.
