"OHCHR should make more efforts in terms of strengthening legislative and institutional capacities in the field of training and education", Morocco's permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, ambassador Mohamed Aujjar, said during an interactive debate with the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The ambassador stressed the importance of supporting the efforts aimed at strengthening the human and financial resources of OHCHR, including increasing the contribution to the regular UN budget.

He also called for supporting the initiatives aimed at strengthening the role of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) as a vehicle for the promotion and protection of human rights, Aujjar said, recalling that Morocco, as one of the architects of this instrument, is leading various initiatives to enhance the positive role of the UPR.

The Kingdom, he stressed, "considers it important to promote a balanced treatment between economic, social and cultural rights and civil and political rights in order to overcome the current asymmetries between these two interdependent and indivisible sets of human rights".
