Hostages in the Sahel "endless waiting"

Mardi 18 Septembre 2012

Françoise Larribe, a former hostage in the Sahel and wife of Daniel Larribe still held by AQIM, spoke on Tuesday to Europe 1 of the "endless wait" experienced by her husband. "This is an undated wait, this is what is terrible," she said, commenting on the video published on September 8, in which the four hostages still in the hands of AQIM express themselves.

The former hostage recounted her kidnapping in September 2010. At night, "there was  a tremendous noise at the door." "I thought it was my cat who had knocked over a table," she said, indicating that they then saw three people around her bed, telling her husband to follow. "When I came out on the doorstep, I saw Daniel already lying in the pick-up, it was terrible for him. He thought, rushing, he would protect me," continued the former hostage, as recounted on the site Affaires Stratiques.

Françoise Larribe also described the conditions of life in the desert, "it can be assumed unbearable when it is hot, temperatures at 48 drgees, the "sandstorms lash you." "It's terrifying to think like that. I think they have suffered a lot," she said, adding: "It is absolutely necessary to get out of there, it is a matter of survival."
