Has Ennahda sold Tunisia to Qatar?

Mercredi 21 Novembre 2012

Everyone knows the current ambitions of Qatar to invest and invest anywhere in the world and in all areas. Qatar continues to buy Western economies, relying on several local political leaders and especially on its media giant Al Jazeera.
Has Ennahda sold Tunisia to Qatar?
Thus, in Tunisia, with the arrival of  the Islamist party  Ennahda in power, the red carpet was rolled out for  the Qataris. The Emirate with its financial strength has invested in countless economic sectors.

Tunisian press suggest Ennahda benefited from financial largesse of the Emir and his unfailing support to help them win power. Qatar's economic presence in Tunisia is a matter of concern for Tunisians, given the ease and speed with which major projects and policy are attributed to Qatar by the Provisional Government.

There have been several  Qatari projects, in fact, that have been facilitated by Ennahda which is following in the footsteps of Ben Ali in this regard, according to the media.

Qatar Diar is a mega real estate project (luxury villas, golf course, marina, restaurants ...) that extends over 140 hectares in the heart of palm trees , between Nefza and Tozeur. This project was simply extended without modification by the government dominated by Ennahda. It had already been voted  on in 2010 by the Parliament of Ben Ali, but its impact is almost nil on development and employment, with potential consequences on the fragile ecosystem of the region.

The refinery project at Skhira is a project designed to significantly increase the refining capacity of Tunisia to reduce its dependence on imports of crude and even possibly responding to the rising demand in refining  on the international market. However, the project was originally coveted by the Algerian Sonatrach Group but was delivered to the Qataris.

The Sra Ouertane project is a very exciting project. This mine near Kef produces raw phosphate material  which is in high demand on the world market.

In addition, the interim government has granted the national airline of  Qatar, Qatar Airways, the right to embark and disembark passengers in any Tunisian airport not only to Qatar but also to any other destination the world.

It is, therefore, shared interests between Ennahda and the Qataris establishing themselves increasingly in Tunisia, a country like France, which has also not escaped the economic stranglehold of Qatar .
