Hanoi Declaration Gives MPs Greater Role in Defining Post-2015 MDGs

Hanoi - The declaration of Hanoi, adopted at the end of the 132nd Assembly fo the Interparliamentary Union (IPU) in the Vietnamese capital, gives MPs a greater role in defining the post-2015 Millennium Development Goals, Upper House Speaker Mohamed Cheikh Biadillah said on Wednesday in Hanoi.

Speaking on behalf of the African geostrategic group, Biadillah said that the declaration will be submitted to the UN General Assembly next September in New York with a view to enriching the debate on the post- 2015 MDG agenda, a statement of the Upper House said.

The statement quotes that Biadillah thanked Vietnam for hosting the 132nd IPU Assembly which offered a venue for strengthening ties between MPs in favour of international peace and security and sustainable development.

Vietnam, thus, confirms its commitment to support international parliamentary action and make the voice of parliaments heard in international fora.

Some 800 participants from 133 parliaments took part in IPU's assembly.
