Jeudi 31 Mai 2018

Rabat - HM King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, accompanied by HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, HRH Prince Moulay Rachid and HH Prince Moulay Ismail, chaired, Wednesday at Casablanca royal palace, the fourth religious lecture of the holy month of Ramadan.

The lecture was given by professor Abdelkader Mekki Kettani, engineer and specialist of hadith asharif, under the theme "divergences in jurisprudence of religious leaders and how to benefit from it", drawing on hadith of prophet Mohammed PBUH "In every descent righteous people will be in charge of this science (religion science), they will rid it of the distortions of the exaggerators, the usurpations of the deniers and the interpretations of ignorant people".

At the beginning of this lecture, the speaker stressed that the differences between the ulemas in their fatwas on certain secondary issues throughout the centuries respond to the imperative to take into account the difference in people's living conditions and spatio-temporal framework, contrary to the allegations put forward by some ignorant, usurpers, fanatics and other extremists, since this difference is a source of diversity and wealth for Islamic sharia.

He noted that the first type of real divergence is of a personal emanation obeying a tendency or a desire which, often, is the object of reprobation, the fakih being required to subscribe to the precepts of the sharia, without yielding anything to his personal inclinations and visions.

The second type, the most important, emanates from a jurisprudence based on the Holy Quran and its interpretations and on the prophetic tradition (Sunnah), he went on, adding that this type of divergence is due to the way in which the ulemas apprehend the sources of Revelation, according to their understanding, their interpretation and their skills.

Therefore, ulemas may have different appreciations in terms of acceptance of certain hadiths, depending on their sources, their rapporteurs or their degree of compatibility with the general precepts of religion and its ultimate purposes, he pointed out.

The speaker also addressed some issues related to the interpretation of the Holy Quran and the Sunnah and the provisions they contain, noting that the divergence between the ulemas is also a function of their cognitive and innate skills, but also of the difference of environments and ages.

In this sense, he stressed the importance of renewing Islamic discourse and promoting moderate and enlightened thought, the foundations of which were laid by the Prophet Sidna Mohammed and magnified by the Holy Quran, in accordance with the verse: "Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you might use reason."

Regarding the virtues of dialogue and acceptance of the contrary opinion, he stressed the need to draw first on the tradition of Prophet Sidna Mohammed, his humility and wisdom, to observe mutual respect, to stick to fairness and to abandon fanaticism and hatred.

According to him, the contribution of divergences in the renewal of Islamic discourse is of great importance provided that one attaches oneself to the fundamental sources of legislation, in this case the Holy Quran mainly by revisiting its exegeses and purifying it from erroneous explanations.

To do this, he added, it is important to re-examine Islamic doctrines and to make the most of their differences and richness in understanding contemporary economic, cultural, social, intellectual and media issues, based on the Holy Quran, the hadiths whose veracity has been unanimously established, as well as on the opinions of the Imams.

At the end of this fourth religious lecture, HM the King, Commander of the Faithful, was greeted by His Highness Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, Emir of the Emirate of Llorin in the State of Kwara in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim Salih Al Hosseini, president of the Fatwa Body and the Nigerian Islamic Council and president of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African ulemas in Nigeria, Oussama Sayid Al Azhari, advisor to the president of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Farid Ben Yaakoub Al-Miftah, commissioner of the Bahraini ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Waqf, Mohamed Mansour Sy, advisor and deputy of the Caliph general of the Tariqa Tijaniya in Senegal, Sheikh El hadj Moustapha Sonta, Caliph general of the Tidjanes in Côte d'Ivoire.

The Sovereign was also greeted by Sheikh Baku Abderrachid, head of public relations at the Direct Aid Association and vice-president of the section of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African ulemas in Togo, Abdessamie Al Anis, one of the ulemas of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed Akram Nadwi, professor at the Oxford Institute of Peace in Great Britain, Zaki Moussa Klone, director of the Abdeljalil Islamic Academy and member of the section of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African ulemas in Sierra Leone, and Wilton Da Conceicao Das Neves, Imam, preacher and member of the section of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African ulemas in Sao Tome.
