Gnawa World Music Festival from 21- 24 June in Essaouira
It is time again for Essaouira to don its finery and vibrate to the sound of cymbals and other drums to give a fitting welcome to the Gnawa World Music Festival from 21 to 24 June, the city it will again experience this festival's unique magic as it does every year in the relaxed atmosphere so characteristic of the windy city.

Renowned city of music and artists, Essaouira will host within its walls the15th Gnawa World Music Festival. A celebration which the organizers promise will have a "special taste", with several surprises awaiting the audience.
For four days, the former Mogador will again reach to the sky with Gnawa music, inherited from the 16th century slaves brought from their countries of sub-Saharan Africa to the region of Essaouira. Music that is part of the soul of this very special city.
For four days the festival will promote the Gnawa music heritage, and will also, as it has done for fifteen years,
offer new sound experiences that willplayedlive in the city where jazz, electro rock, African rhythms, music Sufi mingle with Gnawa rhythms.
At the opening on Thursday night of the festival, which this year coincides with the festival of music, the tone will be given with the parade of the Gnawa who will parade in all parts of the old city. They will run with four days of celebration and delirious music where the sounds of cymbals, drums and guembris will transfix festival goers and locals. They also will take possession of magical spaces created for the festival, from the Place Moulay El Hassan to the more intimate venues such as Borj Bab Marrakech, Dar Souiri or Zaouia Sidna Bilal, the spiritual ancestor of all the Gnawa.
For festival organizers, if the partying is always present in Essaouira, it is the music and culturewhich takes precedence,because since its creation, Gnawa World Music has positioned itself in the musical research niche.
With the organization of artistic residencies crucial in the programming, five newfusion projects mingle maâlems Gnaoua experiments with different groups, whether from percussionists from West Africa, French rappers, jazz or Latin New York .
A memorable performance will be given by the Issaoua of Meknès and the famous Qawwali musicians from Pakistan.
To complete the picture, the Malian diva Oumou Sangare returns to Essaouira for a show that promises to be especially memorable.
