G77+China extraordinary summit kicks off in Bolivia with participation of Morocco

Santa Cruz (Bolivia) - An extraordinary summit of Group 77 and China kicked off Saturday in Santa Cruz in eastern Bolivia, with the participation of a Moroccan delegation, led by minister of housing, urban planning and urban policy, Nabil Benabdallah.

In addition to UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, the summit, marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of G77, is attended by heads of state and representatives of more than 130 members states of this group. In a speech during the opening ceremony of the summit, chaired by head of the State of Bolivia, Evo Morales, Ban called for collaboration between the North and South to develop a new "universal agenda" for sustainable development to eradicate poverty and preserve the planet.

The Summit Santa Cruz offers a "historic" opportunity for the North and South to overcome their differences and adopt a "real agenda of universal development," noted the UN official, stressing the important contribution of G77+ China to peace and security in the world. The two-day summit's agenda includes, notably the eradication of poverty, South-South cooperation, climate change, and food security.
