France to provide funding for development projects in Morocco

Morocco and France signed two loan agreements totaling 173 million Euros on Wednesday to provide funding for projects aimed to create industrial platforms and promote a “mixed economy” in public services in Casablanca.

The agreements were signed at the closing of the forum of Moroccan and French businessmen co-chaired by the Moroccan and French heads of government, Abdelilah Benkirane and Jean-Marc Ayrault.
 
A Euro 150 millon loan will fund a program of technopoles and P2I – Industrial Integrated Platforms, which are part of Morocco’s industrial emergence plan, aimed to create an attractive offer specific to each of the north African country’s industrial sectors aimed at theinternational  , i.e. offshoring, electronics, car equipment manufacturers, aeronautics, agribusiness and textile and leather industry.
 
These integrated platforms fall within the frame of Morocco’s strategies in the industrial, agricultural and sea based businesses.
 
A second loan of Euro 23 million  is provided by France’s development agency (AFD) to Casablanca Transports, the company building the first line of Casablanca’s tramway. This loans aims to promote the “mixed economy” as an alternative to managing public services between direct and delegated management.
 
The two countries also signed a memorandum of understanding on setting up training centres on renewable energies and energy efficiency. It complements solar and wind energy developed in the north African country.
 
Morocco and the AFD also signed a letter of understanding on reinforcing the capacities of the professional training in the field of aeronautics.
