Fez: Ras El Ma Local Prison Denies Hunger Strike by Detainees Involved in Terror Cases

Samedi 2 Mai 2020

Rabat - The local Ras El Ma prison in Fez described as "unfounded" the information posted by certain electronic sites and social networks concerning a hunger strike staged by detainees in cases of extremism and terrorism in this prison. "The statements of certain suspicious parties concerning the staging of a hunger strike by these detainees are completely unfounded, because these parties, who claim to be defenders of the rights and interests of this category of detainees, took the the habit of disseminating lies and allegations in order to undermine the prison administration", said the body in an update issued on Friday.

"On April 29, 2020, 12 inmates from this establishment involved in extremism and terrorism cases sowed chaos and threw their meals in the corridor of the establishment, demanding undue privileges such as keeping the doors of cells open all day, increasing the duration of the walk, using the telephone and having access to the establishment's shop without following the purchasing program specified by the administration", added the same source. After taking the appropriate disciplinary measures against them, several of them apologized to the administration of the establishment and pledged not to repeat these irresponsible behaviors which jeopardize the security of the institution, which prompted the administration to lift these disciplinary sanctions, the statement said.
