FOPREL Condemns Inappropriate Statements of Ban Ki-Moon on Moroccan Sahara

Rabat - Forum of Presidents of the Legislative Bodies of Central America and the Caribbean Basin (known by its Spanish acronym FOPREL) condemns the "inappropriate" statements made by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon on the Moroccan Sahara, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi Alami said Monday in Rabat.
"Morocco has the support of all the countries of Central America and the Caribbean regarding the national cause", Talbi Alami told the press following a meeting with Speakers of the forum member countries, adding that FOPREL members were "very impressed" by the massive popular march, held Sunday in Rabat, to protest against the bias position of Mr. Ban.

He also added that FOPREL president, who is also president of the Congress of Guatemala, stressed that he would advocate for the adoption of a parliamentary declaration in his country supporting the efforts of the Kingdom and its institutions in defending the Moroccan Sahara.

The Forum of Presidents of Legislative Branches in Central America and the Caribbean (FOPREL) consists of eight permanent members: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic.
