FM reiterates in New York Morocco's full support for UN integrated strategy for Sahel

New York - Foreign Minister, Saad- Eddine El Otmani, reaffirmed, Thursday the UN headquarters in New York, Morocco's full support for the integrated regional strategy of the United Nations for the Sahel, a region that facing several challenges including instability due to the terrorist threat.

"The Kingdom of Morocco reiterates its full support for the integrated strategy of the United Nations and urges the countries of the region to implement it," said El Otmani during a speech at the High Level Meeting on Sahel, held on the occasion of the 68th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

During this meeting attended by UN Secretary General, Ban Ki -moon and several heads of State and government of the countries of the Sahel, the Minister also called for a deep development approach for the countries of the region to achieve stability and social and economic development in this part of Africa.

El Otmani noted that the recent visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in Mali, on the occasion of the inauguration of the new president of Mali, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, attests to the readiness of the Kingdom to provide full support for this country in terms of security and social and economic development.

Presented in June by the Personal Envoy of the Secretary General of the UN for the Sahel, Romano Prodi, the integrated regional strategy for the region aims to guide the efforts of the UN to provide support for the countries of the Sahel, within a regional framework.
