FM Underlines Positive Dynamics of Sahara Issue

Jeudi 19 Décembre 2019

Laayoune - The Sahara issue is currently experiencing "positive" dynamics that would strengthen the Moroccan identity of the southern provinces, said Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita on Wednesday in Laayoune.

"We are currently witnessing positive dynamics that would strengthen the Moroccan identity of the Sahara," Bourita said during a joint press briefing with his Comorian counterpart Souef Mohamed El Amine, after the inauguration of a consulate general of the Union of the Comoros in Laayoune. The minister pointed out that the "important developments" that have taken place over the past ten days with regard to the Sahara issue, "are not rumors or lies" like those spread by other parties "on alleged positions by the African Union or the appointment of the UNSG new personal envoy for the Sahara".

The important event is Lesotho's decision to suspend all its previous decisions and statements relating to the Sahara and SADR, as well as that of Jamaica which maintains its decision to withdraw recognition from the fake "SADR", said Bourita who also highlighted the decision of the Union of the Comoros to open a consulate general in Laayoune. The important event is also the vote scheduled for Wednesday by the US Congress on the budget law which includes the southern provinces in the aid allocated to Morocco, as well as the adoption by the Committee of Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Islamic Affairs and Moroccan Expatriates at the House of Representatives of two bills aimed at establishing the legal jurisdiction of the Kingdom over its entire maritime area. Unlike the propaganda campaign waged by other parties, "we are witnessing positive dynamics within the African Union, the European Union and in the positions of influential countries in favor of Morocco", he said. "This is the dynamics that the Sahara issue is witnessing and those who doubt the finality of the UN process or the Moroccan identity of the Sahara are wrong," he insisted. The Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that these events "confirm that Morocco is in its Sahara and the Sahara is in Morocco".
