New York - The president and CEO of the Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy (MASEN) Mustapha Bakkoury shared on Monday in New York, the vision of Morocco in the field of energy which falls in line with the initiative "Sustainable Energy all - SE4All "(Sustainable Energy For All), launched in 2011 by the United Nations.
Energy: Mustapha Bakkoury emphasises similarities between New York and Moroccan SE4All vision

SE4All fits perfectly with the Moroccan initiative engaged 3 years ago as part of an ambitious and comprehensive vision promoted by King Mohammed VI, said Bakkoury at a high-level conference under the theme of Energy for all, in the presence of the Secretary General of the UN.

This view was expressed by the Sovereign in 2010 to the United Nations, at the Summit on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) held Bakkoury to remind Member States gathered to learn about the state progress of the initiative SE4ALL during an interactive panel on concrete actions in the framework of this action.

Mustapha Bakkoury was appointed last Friday in Washington, as a member of the Advisory Council of SE4All initiative.

Sustainable Energy for All is a partnership of governments, the private sector and civil society initiative. It is given three objectives by 2030: ensure universal access to modern energy, double the amount of renewable energy contained in the global energy mix and double the global rate of improvement in the energy efficiency.

Beyond sharing the vision, Morocco also recognises the desired SE4All operational approach, the president of MASEN said.

In order to support this vision, Morocco has implemented major projects both on the development of renewable energy as a major axis response to the MDGs and environmental aspects as energy efficiency and development social which is strongly present in this dynamic, he said.

On this occasion, he presented the Ouarzazate solar complex, a pioneering project which illustrates the effective implementation of our vision as part of the national energy strategy.

It was important to share with the audience what we are trying to achieve in practice on the ground, he said to MAP, noting that these are projects that will change the lives of citizens and contribute to the evolution of the territories in infrastructure and sustainable development.

The Ouarzazate project is one of five Moroccan sites for solar plan to position Morocco as a key player in the solar field at the region.

Launched in 2009, this national project was set up to meet growing energy demand, placing renewable energy, particularly solar energy to rank in its priorities.

In 2020, the Moroccan Solar Plan aims to set up a production capacity of 2,000 megawatts, or 38 per cent of the installed capacity at the end of 2008, 14 per c ent of the electric power by 2020.

For Bakkoury, energy is not only a tool for development, but also a vehicle for development of industries and services, and is part of the overall competitiveness of a country.

Members of the Advisory Council SE4ALL that brings together prominent leaders from business, finance, politics and civil society, will provide strategic advice and act as global ambassadors for the initiative in leading advocacy and mobilising stakeholders.
