El Otmani : G20 statement on Syria in coherence with the position of Morocco

Rabat - The G20 statement on Syria is in coherence with the position of Morocco and the decisions adopted by the 140th ministerial Arab league session, held in Cairo on September 1st, said Foreign minister Saad Dine El Otmani.

Morocco and the Arab League strongly condemned the "ignoble killing" committed on August 21 in al-Ghota East (Damascus suburb), where chemical weapons, prohibited internationally, have been used, and held the Syrian regime responsible for these acts and consequences,  El Otmani to MAP.

Both parties, the minister added, also called the United Nations and the international community to assume their responsibilities in accordance with the UN Charter and international law, to take the measures necessary deterrent against the perpetrators and give a halt to violations and genocide perpetrated by the Syrian regime for more than two years.

The Kingdom of Morocco, said  El Otmani, reiterated that "the solution to the crisis in Syria can only be political," ensuring that Morocco will continue to contribute to efforts to alleviate the difficult humanitarian conditions of Syrian refugees in accordance with the instructions of HM King Mohammed VI. The G20 statement, signed by 12 countries (United States, Australia, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom, and Germany) underlines the commitment of these countries to strongly condemn the use of chemical weapons, which they attribute to the regime of Bashar al-Assad.
