Dozen Moroccans fired on at border by Algerian army, Morocco expresses 'utmost indignation', 'deep concern"

Rabat - The Moroccan government expressed its "utmost indignation" and "deep concern" after an Algerian soldier fired Saturday on a dozen of Moroccan civilians at the Moroccan- Algerian borders.

On Saturday "at about noon at the border point of Oulad Slaleh, (30 km north east of Oujda), an Algerian soldier fired three times on Moroccan civilians and seriously injured one Moroccan citizen", the statement added.

"The government of the Kingdom of Morocco has registered with utmost indignation and very deep concern the serious incident that occurred on Saturday October 18 at the Moroccan- Algerian border", a statement of the government says.

A person was severely wounded in the face, the same source indicated, noting that the 28-year old Razqallah Salhi was evacuated to the Al Farabi hospital in Oujda.

According to the statement, doctors at the Oujda hospital said he is in a "very critical condition".

"Morocco strongly protests against this direct and unacceptable offence of the Algerian army against the life of Moroccan civilian citizens and denounces this irresponsible act adding to other provocative acts recently registered at the borders", the statement points out.

Morocco condemns "this unjustified act which violates the basic rules of good neighbourliness and goes against the historical and brotherly ties between the two peoples", the government said .

The Moroccan government urged its Algerian pair to shoulder its responsibility as dictated by the international law and provide necessary explanations, the statement concluded.
