Development in Africa: Contribution of Economic and Social Councils of Paramount Importance, FM

Rabat - The contribution of the Economic and Social Councils to the models of development in Africa is of paramount importance, said, on Wednesday in Rabat, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. In an speech read on his behalf at the opening of the elective General Assembly of the African Union of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions (UCESA), the Minister stressed that the holding of this assembly is very relevant given the current context, in which in-depth reflection is carried out at the level of the Continent on development models, economic integration, both at continental and regional levels, as well as on the various challenges that Africa is urged to address and the role it will play on the international scene.

"In the context of this reflection, the contribution of the Economic and Social Councils, as a force for proposals and a space for evaluation, analysis and forecasting, is of paramount importance," he said. In this regard, he noted that the Moroccan Economic and Social Council enjoys a distinguished status in the institutional architecture of the Kingdom, adding that it rose to the rank of a Constitutional Institution. The Minister also seized this opportunity to reaffirm Morocco's commitment to development and peace in Africa, referring in particular to the fifty visits made by HM King Mohammed VI, which led to the signing of hundreds of agreements, helped promote the Kingdom's relations with the rest of the continent and to made it the priority in its foreign policy.
