Covid-19: No New Cases of Infection Recorded in Prisons of Ten Regions, DGAPR

Rabat - No new cases of infection with the new coronavirus (Covid-19) have been recorded in prisons of ten regions, whether among employees or prisoners, announced Sunday the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR). This concerns the regions of Casablanca-Settat, Beni Mellal-Khénifra, Souss-Massa, Guelmim-Oued Noun, Laâyoune -Sakia El Hamra, Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Fez-Meknès, Marrakech-Safi and the eastern region, said the DGAPR in a press release. The DGAPR presented a set of data relating to the evolution of the health situation in penitentiaries in the Kingdom in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic, after having carried out new tests on samples from prisoners and prison staff to detect the level of virus infection. No new cases of infection were registered either in the prison of the region of Drâa-Tafilalet, while regarding the local prison of Ouarzazate, the tests carried out for 224 patients among the 241 confirmed cases in the establishment were received after undergoing the treatment protocol, said the same source, adding that the results of 104 detainees are negative, of which 43 detainees are declared completely cured, after their analyzes showed that they are virus free.

Other samples will be taken from the remaining detainees who are still undergoing the treatment protocol, said source. Regarding prison staff, analyzes were carried out on the 63 confirmed cases of infection by the virus, the statement said, noting that the results of 33 cases were negative and that 28 of them were declared cured, including the former director of the prison, while the rest of the staff are still undergoing the treatment protocol before being screened again. As for the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, tests were carried out on a sample of ten detainees from the local prison of Tangier 1, two cases of which turned out to be positive, it added. The analyzes carried out on the contacts of these two confirmed cases showed that eight contacts of the first case are positive, while for the second case only one contact tested positive, noted the same source, adding that all the infected detainees had the treatment protocol adopted to treat Covid-19 patients. Regarding employees, in addition to the two cases previously reported on a sample of seven employees, other tests were carried out on a sample of 75, eight of whom tested positive, it added. In addition, symptoms of infection with the new coronavirus were detected in nine of the contacts of infected employees, the statement said, noting that they underwent tests in coordination with the relevant health services, which helped confirm that four of them were infected with the virus. At the local prison of Ksar El Kébir, a second civil servant whose contamination was previously announced, has recovered from the illness. Three of the four infected employees have recovered from the disease, the statement said. The DGAPR has strengthened control procedures to ensure compliance with the precautionary measures and mobilized all material and logistical resources to avoid further contamination in penitentiaries.
