Covid-19: 93 New Recoveries in Morocco, 2,554 in Total

Rabat - Ninety-three (93) new recoveries from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) have been reported during the last 24 hours in Morocco, bringing to 2,554 the total number of cured people, the ministry of Health announced Sunday.

Two new deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 188, said director of Epidemiology and Disease Control at the ministry of Health, Mohamed El Youbi, in a statement broadcast by MAP on its TV channel M24 and on RIM RADIO.

The case-fatality rate (the percentage of deaths caused by the virus among total confirmed cases) is 3.1%, he added.

Referring to the number of cured people, El Youbi pointed out that the rate of recoveries is up slightly to reach this Saturday 42.1%.

He also said that 153 new cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in Morocco in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 6,063.

The new cases are distributed, in particular, between the regions of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Fez-Meknes, Casablanca-Settat, Marrakech-Safi and Tangier-Tetouan Al Hoceima, he noted, adding that five regions of the Kingdom have not registered new cases in the last 24 hours, namely Draâ-Tafilalet, the Eastern region, Guelmim-Oued Noun, Laâyoune-Sakia Al Hamra, and Dakhla Oued Eddahab.

Concerning the geographical distribution, El Youbi indicated that the region of Casablanca-Settat still has the highest number of confirmed cases with a rate of 27%, followed by Marrakech-Safi (20%), Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima and Fez-Meknes and to a lesser extent, Draa-Tafilalet and Rabat-Salé-Kénitra.

The regions of Laayoune Sakia Al Hamra and Dakhla Oued Dahhab do not have any cases taken care of in hospitals dedicated to Covid-19, the official said.

With regard to Covid-19 infection among children under 14 years of age, the official pointed out that of the 6,063 confirmed cases, 540 children were infected, i.e. a rate of 9%, adding that more than 93% of these children had mild or no symptoms, while cases in a critical state of health did not exceed 1.3%.

He also recalled that only one death has been reported in this category. It was a 17-month-old newborn baby who suffered from several diseases including growth and kidney problems.
